Principal's Message: SBAC Challenge!

Jackie Carducci GJHS Principal

It’s SBAC time, and I have a question for all of my wonderful students.

Would you like to participate in my principal’s challenge?

As the principal of Greenspun Junior High School, I challenge all of you to achieve your BEST scores ever on your upcoming SBAC tests.

If your scores are better this year than they were last year, I will personally invite you to a Chick-fil-A luncheon to celebrate your hard work and success. All you have to do is show me your scores have improved! Even if you will be in ninth grade next year, you will be invited to the

celebration! As your principal, I have faith in you. If you focus, take your time, and answer each question carefully, I know you will improve your last year’s scores.

Events & Honors:

JV Quiz: Congratulations to the Greenspun Junior Varsity Quiz team.  This past Saturday they competed against many other middle schools at Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy.  The team won all three of its matches and ended up making it to the semifinals. Good job Malia Ortiz, Caleb Langeveld, Kamryn Peterson, Red Raven Vales, Addison Roderick, Jesse Sinclair, and Sean Roederick.

Band: On April 4, 2024, the Greenspun Wind Symphony performed at the CCSD Advanced Band Festival. The judges loved hearing from our bands and awarded our groups with a rating of Superior+. This is the highest rating possible for a band! It shows how dedicated our students are to their craft, and we could not be more proud!

Scoliosis Screening: Postural screening, as required by Nevada State Law, will be conducted by school nurses in your child’s school on April 19, 2024; this screening is only for 6th grade girls and 8th grade boys

  • The purpose of postural screening is to detect signs of abnormal spinal development so that the need for treatment can be determined. For this screening, boys and girls will be seen separately. Privacy will be maintained within the constraints of the school setting. Students will be asked to remove their shirts and shoes. Girls are encouraged to wear a sports bra underneath their shirts.

  • Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine. Most cases of spinal curvature are mild, but may become progressively more severe as the child continues to grow. Early treatment can prevent the development of a severe deformity, which can later affect the health and appearance of the child.

  • You will be notified only if a possible abnormality is observed and follow-up is necessary. This screening does not replace your child’s need for regular health care and check-ups. If you do not want your child to have a postural screening at school, please notify the school nurse at ebertr@nv.ccsd.net

Teacher Appreciation Week: Greenspun Students: Teacher Appreciation is coming up in May and Student Council would like to give positive notes to teachers from their students!  Please take the time to fill out a note to your teacher about how much you appreciate them. Deadline is Tuesday, April 30th. Click below to submit!  Thank you!

Straight O Reward: ATTENTION Quarter 4 Straight"O" Students! We will be celebrating your outstanding citizenship on April 12th during your lunch. If you have not picked up your Quarter 4 sticker, stop by and see Ms. Lopez. The Quarter 4 sticker will be required to receive your Straight "O" treats. Great job, and see you on the 12th of April.

SBAC Testing: Starting April 3, 2024, Greenspun Junior High School students will participate in the Nevada Smarter Summative Assessments in the ELA and Math content areas. Eighth-grade students will participate in the Criterion-Referenced Test (CRT) in the science content area. These assessments measure individual student achievement on the Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS) in English Language Arts/literacy (ELA), mathematics, and science.

We strongly need your child’s participation to help our school receive “high performance” on the Nevada Star Rating System.  Your cooperation in assisting the school with this achievement is greatly appreciated.  Please click here for more information.
