Principal’s Message
Can There Be Two Winners?
It has been said that in every competition there is a winner and a loser. But, is it possible that there could be two winners? I am going to say, “YES! It is,” because winning is not always about the final score.
Winning is a mindset. As one sports psychologist explained, “You win with attitude and effort, even when you lose.” It’s also about playing with integrity and good will towards other teammates and opponents.
I have witnessed many winners at Greenspun over the past few weeks as student teams engaged in various competitions. Some of them have accumulated wins against their competitors, and some did not, but they all demonstrated qualities of a true winner. Besides their dedication and perseverance, what made them true winners was their willingness to demonstrate support and goodwill to each other and their opponents.
It touched my heart to see our robotics team helping their opponents fix their robots in a state qualifying match. It made me smile when our cheerleaders sat front and center to watch and applaud the opposing squad as they performed at a game. It made me proud to watch our basketball teams fight to the finish, and say, “Good job,” to their opponents after the final score of an important game.
The best part is that I see students demonstrate that winning mindset every day at our school. And, although I am proud of them when they win championships, I am also equally proud of them for their positive attitudes, their commitment to their teams, and the goodwill they demonstrate to each other and their opponents.
Our students compete with integrity, and that is why they are true winners!
Events & Honors:
8th Grade Night: Greenspun JHS is hosting an Eighth Grade Night for the eighth grade basketball players, cheerleaders, and color guard at the home game on Thursday, February 16, 2023. The girls' game starts at 4 p.m. and the boys begin at 5:15 p.m. Ceremonies will take place before each game. This is also "Pack the Gym" and students can attend without a parent or guardian. Tickets are $1 for students and $3 for adults. We ask students to display appropriate behaviors at the game. Students who cause any campus disruption will be asked to leave the campus immediately and possibly receive a consequence. Come out and support the Dolphins!
Robotics: This past Saturday, our robotics teams B, C, and X competed in the Coral Academy Tournament, the last state qualifier of the season, and they did not disappoint. Team X won 2nd place in the Teamwork Championship, Team C won one of the top awards, the Design Award, and Team B won the top 2 awards Excellence and Teamwork Champions. This means all six of Greenspun's robotics teams have qualified for the Nevada State Vex Robotics Tournament on February 25.
For the next month, they will be working hard to compete against the top teams in the state of Nevada to earn a bid at the World Championship in Dallas, Texas. For now, a big congratulations goes out to all six teams for their hard work, determination, sportsmanship, and collaboration in the 2022/2023 regular season, where they earned a collective; two Excellence Awards, one Design Award, two Teamwork Championships, two 2nd place Team Championships, and a Judge's Award.
