Making Safe Choices At School

Recently, we’ve noticed an increase in unacceptable behavior in our cafeteria and hallways. This includes students throwing food, water bottles, and other objects, as well as using items such as stink bombs, sprays, or strong perfumes. While some students may see this as a joke, these actions can cause real harm.

Throwing objects can cause serious injuries, including cuts, bruises, concussions, or damage to eyes and faces. Releasing substances with strong odors can also be dangerous, especially for students or staff who have asthma, severe allergies, or other medical conditions. What may seem like a joke to one person can result in fear, injury, or a medical emergency for another.

Students - I am asking you to stop and think before engaging in this type of behavior. We all share responsibility for keeping our school safe, and that means being aware of how our actions affect others.

Parents and Guardians - I am asking you to reiterate to your children that this behavior could 1.) cause  serious harm to others; 2.) is unacceptable; and 3.) will have consequences. At a minimum, students involved will face a five-day suspension and loss of privileges in extracurricular activities. More serious or repeated incidents will result in additional disciplinary action.

Our top priority is providing a safe, respectful environment where students can learn and feel secure. We appreciate the support of our families as we reinforce these expectations and continue working together to keep our school a safe place for everyone.
