Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am reaching out to you about a recent country-wide Tik Tok challenge that encourages students to place metal objects into the USB and/or charger points of Chromebooks. In addition to the dangers of this trend, it causes damage to the Chromebook beyond repair.
I am asking you to please take a few minutes to explain to your children the seriousness of destroying school property. Students who participate in this challenge, not only will be fined $400 for the cost of the Chromebook, but will also be cited by CCSD Police for a misdemeanor, as it is willful damage to school property. In our code of conduct, it is considered vandalism, and appropriate discipline actions, in addition to fines, will be applied.
As data shows, “While some online trends may seem harmless or entertaining, others can pose serious risks to children's health, safety, and well-being. Certain challenges have encouraged dangerous behaviors such as ingesting harmful substances, engaging in unsafe stunts, or damaging property—all for the sake of online attention or peer approval.”
Although I have faith that most of our students would not participate in unsafe and destructive Tik Tok challenges, I also have seen the powerful influence of social media over middle school students. Please have a conversation with your students to emphasize the value of the Chromebook and the consequences for participating in such challenges.
Together, we can help our children make wise choices and stay safe—both online and offline. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call our office.
Thank you for your continued support.
