Principal’s Message:

Dear Families,
What a wonderful first week of the 2026–27 school year! It has been heart-warming to see our halls filled with enthusiastic, smiling students. One of my favorite things is to welcome back our returning students and see how much they have matured over the summer months. It is also a joy to say hello to our anxious sixth graders and assure them that everything is going to be okay as they adjust to the middle school world.
Another one of my favorite things is meeting our Greenspun families. Therefore, I am encouraging you to attend our Open House on Thursday, August 20, from 6-8 pm. This evening is always one of my favorites because it gives us the chance to come together as a school community.
You will be able to connect with your child’s teachers, visit their classrooms, and get a glimpse of the wonderful learning experiences ahead this year. This evening is also an opportunity for you to gain valuable insight into how your children can be successful in their classes.
Open House is a time for us to build partnerships. When families and schools work together, amazing things happen for our kids. You are such an important part of our school community, and your support means the world to our Greenspun staff!
Events & Honors:
i-Ready Testing: Greenspun will administer the i-Ready Assessment beginning Monday, August 17. i-Ready is an online program for reading and mathematics that will help your student’s teachers determine your student’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows your teachers to meet your student exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Personalized Instruction. Please visit greenspunjhs.com/assessment for more information.

SOT: Greenspun JHS will be soliciting nominations and hosting elections for the 2026-2027 School Organizational Team at the end of August. Please visit greenspunjhs.com/sot for dates and information!
Cheer Tryouts: Are you interested in joining the GJHS Cheer Team but missed tryouts? We are having a 2nd tryout Friday, August 21st from 2:00 - 4:30pm in the Greenspun Cafeteria. Show us your jumps and tumbling for a chance to be on the GJHS Cheer Team. You must register for the tryout and have a completed Aktivate Account. Visit the Greenspun Cheer Webpage for more information or ask Mrs. Zuniga. Let's Go Dolphins!
Cheer Fundraiser: World's Finest Chocolate is here at Greenspun. Find a cheerleader before or after school to get your yummy chocolate for $2.00, cash only. There are a variety of flavors for only $2.00 each. Enjoy a sweet treat while supporting your GJHS Cheer Team.

Cross Country: Greenspun JHS now has a Cross Country running team! Cross Country is a no-cut sport, which means that any student can join the team. All you have to do is love to run and complete all required documents on aktivate.com. Our first practice will be on Monday, August 17th, outside on the field. You will not be allowed to practice if you have not completed all required documents on aktivate.com. For more information visit greenspunjhs.com/sports or see Mr. Jackson in Room 205.

Find Your Voice: Join Speech & Debate! Looking for an opportunity to build confidence, communication skills, and critical-thinking abilities? Join Speech & Debate! Speech & Debate gives students the opportunity to practice expressing ideas clearly, thinking on their feet, listening to different perspectives, and speaking confidently in front of others. Students will also learn how to research topics, support their ideas with evidence, and communicate effectively. These skills will benefit them throughout middle school, high school, college, and future careers. Students do not need to be experienced public speakers to participate. Speech & Debate is a welcoming opportunity for all students to challenge themselves, discover their strengths, and develop skills they can use both inside and outside the classroom. Whether your student loves to debate, enjoys telling stories, is passionate about a particular topic, or simply wants to become more confident speaking in front of others, there is a place for them in Speech & Debate! I encourage all students to give Speech & Debate a try and discover the power of their voice!
