Principal’s Message:
As Mr. Slocum, our school librarian, kicks off the 24-25 Scholastic Book Fair, I encourage you to share the importance of reading with your children. According to literary scholars, “Research has consistently linked reading outside of school hours to improved performance across all grades.”
Additionally, research shows that children who read for fun have all sorts of better life outcomes, including stronger language skills, enhanced critical thinking, and improved concentration and focus, just to name a few. More importantly, reading for fun fosters the development of lifelong learners.
I know this to be true. As an avid reader at a young age, the characters I’ve met through the written word, the journeys I’ve taken through countless pages, and the themes I’ve discovered so expertly woven throughout each story were valuable lessons that guided me throughout my life.
Parents, I would love for all of our students to find the value and joy in reading. Whether it is sharing the importance of reading with them or choosing a book or two to read together, my hope is that reading enhances their lives as much as it did mine.
