Principal’s Message:

As I listened to others making preparations for Thanksgiving, I found myself reflecting on the true meaning of the holiday. Traditionally, most of us take this time to reflect on our blessings and thank those who bring joy in our lives as we gather around a festive and beautifully decorated kitchen table and enjoy a holiday feast.

However, I was reminded that Thanksgiving is not just about the “thankful” part of the word, but also about the importance of  “giving,” part two of the word. The reminder came when I happened upon a poem entitled, When Giving Is All We Have, by Albert Rios, an award winning poet.

His beginning lines spoke to me about the power of giving as he so simply stated,

One river gives

Its journey to the next

We give because someone gave to us.

We give because nobody gave to us.

We give because giving has changed us.

We give because giving could have changed us…

(Click here to read the entire poem: https://poets.org/poem/when-giving-all-we-have)

As Rios conveys throughout his poem, giving is a powerful gift, and something that we can all do that changes us for the better. It’s not always about how much we give. It could be much needed resources or something as simple as kindness, and even our time. Whatever our gifts, our return is knowing that we have made a positive difference in the lives of others.

So, as we celebrate our Thanksgiving holiday, let's give thanks for our blessings and embrace the spirit of giving.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Have a safe and meaningful holiday!
