Principal’s Message:

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Veterans

I wonder how many students truly understand the meaning of Veterans Day. For many, it may just seem like an extra day off from school. But this day represents so much more—it’s a chance to reflect on the bravery and dedication of those who have served our country.

Why not use Veterans Day as a time for meaningful family conversation?

We could talk with our children about why our veterans are celebrated with a holiday in their honor.
We could use this time to discuss our veterans’ service, courage, and sacrifice to protect our freedom as U.S. citizens.
We could share stories about friends or relatives who have served in the military and spend time honoring and remembering the veterans in our lives.

And most importantly, we could offer a heartfelt “thank you” to those who have given so much for our country.

To all the veterans in our community, on behalf of the entire Greenspun Junior High staff, we extend our deepest appreciation for your service and sacrifice. Please know that we are truly thankful for you.

Wishing everyone a safe, thoughtful, and meaningful Veterans Day.

Events & Honors:

Albertsons Foundation: A very special and heartfelt thank you to the Albertsons Companies Foundation for their generous donation to Henderson schools this week. Greenspun was awarded $3,000 in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly remodeled Albertson’s Store, located on 201 S. Stephanie St., Henderson, NV.

As part of a foundation grant, Greenspun, along with other Henderson schools, were presented with their checks, amidst a festive performance by the award-winning Green Valley High School Band and various giveaways sponsored by the store. Greenspun will use their donation for incentives to celebrate outstanding students throughout the year.

We’re so grateful to Albertsons for their celebrations and generous support of our schools — a true reflection of the amazing partnership we share within our community. Their ribbon-cutting event brought smiles and positivity to everyone who attended.

MAP Testing: MAP testing begins November 18-19 in ELA classes, and December 3-4 for Math classes. Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is a computer-adaptive assessment utilized to monitor student growth to inform and personalize instruction. STUCO Toy Drive: The Student Council invites you to participate in our Regional Toy Drive in partnership with the Firefighters of Southern Nevada. This annual charity event helps bring joy to children in need during the holiday season — and supports one of our key Student Council service goals for the year. We encourage everyone to contribute new, unwrapped toys and help us make a lasting impact on our local community. NJHS Book Drive: Do you have old children’s books collecting dust on your shelves? Want to make a difference in another kid’s life just by cleaning out your bookshelf? Greenspun Junior High’s National Junior Honor Society is hosting a Book Drive to support Spread the Word Nevada, the state’s largest children’s literacy nonprofit! We’re collecting new and gently used books for Pre-K through 5th grade readers — especially chapter books for 4th and 5th graders. You can drop off your donations in Mrs. Hoeg’s room, Room 323, from November 5th through November 19th. Our goal is to collect 200 books to help kids across Nevada fall in love with reading. Plus, the top 3 donators will win prizes! Check your shelves, bring in your books, and help us make a difference, one book at a time!

Road to Proficiency Initiative: Congratulations to 8th grader Robert Johnson, and 6th graders Elias Tasser and Mia Winning for ANALYZING the Hallways. There were 43 Analyze words posted around school. Congratulations, we hope you enjoy the gift card. Check out the Power Word Icon on your home page for this week's EVALUATE activity and another chance to win.

8th Grade Disneyland Field Trip: Only 24 spots available for the 8th grade trip to Disneyland on 5/11/26. The trip packets can be picked up in the back office. The field trip forms and the deposit of $85 must be turned in to our School Banker to secure your spot. Any student who signs up after the initial 100 will be placed on a waiting list. Absence notes: Parents, please submit absence notes within three days, by clicking on the Attendance icon on our homepage at greenspunjhs.com.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS: Do you want an easy and fun way to celebrate your child's birthday at school? For $15, we will display a short message on the outdoor digital marquee to help celebrate the day. Additionally, a bag of treats and a personalized birthday card will be delivered to your child during the school day. All funds raised help support Greenspun clubs and activities. Infinite Campus Parent portal/Student portal: Parents, please continue to monitor your child’s grades in Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you need an activation code, please contact the office for assistance.
