Principal’s Message:

Grandparents’ Day at Greenspun has always been my favorite tradition. Then came Covid, and it was put on hold for way too long. Covid closures have come and gone, but the celebration of grandparents is beginning anew at our school.

My heart was filled with joy today as we welcomed grandparents to Greenspun to make special memories with their grandchildren and to celebrate and honor them for all they do.

I am grateful for every day that my grandmother was in my life. There was nothing better than going on vacation at my grandma’s house as I was growing up. And to this day, my grandmother is always with me in spirit…love, laughter, and special times…those memories are a part of me, each and every day.

And now, I am blessed to be a grandparent of four wonderful grandchildren, and your grandchildren are blessed to have you as part of their lives, as well, because you are special. You have taken that magical role in your grandchildrens’ lives because you chose to.

As author Alex Hale stated, “Nobody can do for children what grandparents do. Grandparents sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children.”

While browsing in a store one day, I came across the perfect definition of a grandparent as I was looking at posters. The words on the wall shouted proudly, I am not a babysitter. I am a grandparent. I make the choice to be that special person who strives to make a child feel loved unconditionally -  one special moment at a time - completely free of cost and totally from my heart, I give out of love for my grandchildren. And, grandchildren, in return, bless us with a love so strong that it can not be broken.

To all you grandparents out there, you are appreciated and loved!! Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Events & Honors:

MAP Testing: Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing will continue with ELA MAP testing December 2-6, with makeups in the library December 5-6.  Please see the Assessment page for more information!

Thanksgiving Celebration and Fundraiser: Mr. De Camillo’s class and Ms. DeChavez’s classes joined forces to host a Thanksgiving celebration in their classrooms this week.  Despite the challenges of working with students who have varying behaviors, the celebration went perfectly, and we are proud of how well the students participated. We would also like to announce that the self-contained classes are conducting a fundraiser every Monday, Thursday, and Friday. The funds raised will help support our upcoming field trip to the Galleria Mall on December 9, 2024. The goal of this field trip is to provide students with an opportunity to practice handling money. They will work within a small budget to purchase specific items or calculate costs for multiple items, giving them practical, real-world skills in a supportive environment.

Cheerleading Chick Fil-A Fundraiser: Greenspun Family Night at Chick-fil-A on December 4th from 4pm-8pm.  Support the Greenspun Cheer Team December 4th at the St. Rose and Eastern location. 20% of proceeds will go to Greenspun Cheer.  We hope to see you there!

Performing Arts Chick Fil-A Fundraiser: Show your school spirit and support the Performing Arts at their Chick-fil-a fundraiser at the Stephanie location on Thursday, December 5th from 5pm - 7pm!  20% of the proceeds will go towards Greenspun Performing Arts Programs!  We can't wait to see you there!

Support for Jacob Aguilar: Jacob’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation for all of the kind words, letters, and donations during this difficult time. His mom has enjoyed reading all of the heartfelt messages that they have received. If you would like to send a card or letter in support of Jacob’s family, they may be dropped off at the front office. Donations may also be made at GoFundMe: Please click here to donate to the family directly on GoFundMe
